Technics 1200 Mk2's, Numark Matrix 3, Serato Scratch Live, Macbook, Bag O' Weed Toronto’s DJ KARPF is no ordinary DJ. Rexdale’s Matthew Karpf is no ordinary guy. Born and raised in Toronto’s tough west end enclave, Rexdale. Matthew Karpf was exposed to music at a young age.... Drawing early inspiration from Hip Hop legends DJ Premier, Pete Rock and DJ Babu, Karpf’s passion grew with every release. As Karpf advanced in age his taste in music matured with him. Growing from a fan of hardcore Hip Hop exclusively, to a follower of old school, retro and rock and eventually an aficionado of electro, techo, progressive and dirty house until ultimately today becoming an absolute authority on almost all contemporary genres of music including an expertise in Hip Hop in all its forms and almost all genres of House music. Matt Karpfs progression to DJ KARPF was gradual... His first foray into the artistic end of music was as a producer and beatmaker (which he continues with today) but was urged by friend and veteran Toronto DJ, MISTA BOXX, to buy tables and spin. After months of familiarizing himself and honing his skills, DJ KARPF caught his first break when promotion crew and lifelong friends PARADIME urged ownership and management of Toronto nightclub ROCKWOOD to give an inexperienced but skilled DJ KARPF his first gig at a party the crew was throwing at the club. 5 hours and 600 hyped party goers later, DJ KARPF was officially established. Immediately following his first performance DJ KARPF was approached by a number of venues and spent a considerable amount of time bouncing around Toronto’s nightclub scene, spinning at different clubs, playing different music to different crowds; building his rep and gaining momentum and fame with every passing show. In September of 2008, DJ KARPF and PARADIME joined the brand new Toronto club STRANGELOVE, as residents every Saturday night and since then he has played to a number of high profile events, received media attention and has been propelled to exclusive standing among Toronto’s elite club DJs.
